Norwegian Alphabet

Learning the Norwegian alphabet is one of the first steps to reading and pronouncing Norwegian correctly. This short lesson includes all letters with audio, useful notes about extra letters like Æ, Ø, and Å, and simple examples to help you recognise them in real words.

Norwegian uses the Latin alphabet and is very similar to English, so you will recognise most letters right away. The main difference is the three extra letters at the end of the alphabet, which you’ll hear in many everyday Norwegian words.
