Linguapedia was created as a platform to share knowledge about foreign languages, writing systems, and to provide free resources for language learning.
The name “Linguapedia” combines two words: Lingua, Latin for “language,” and Pedia, derived from the Greek paideia (παιδεία), meaning “education.”
About the Creator of Linguapedia
My name is Maksym Lobachevskyi, and I am the founder and developer of Linguapedia.info. I launched the website in its current form in 2016. As a linguist and translator by profession, I graduated from Kyiv National Linguistic University and am fluent in English, German, and French. With over 18 years of experience as a professional translator, I’ve always been passionate about foreign languages. This passion inspired me to create a space where I could share my knowledge and interesting information with others.
Linguapedia is a one-person project that I continue to build and maintain on my own. To bring this vision to life, I taught myself web development and design. Later, I further strengthened my technical foundation by completing a second education in Software Development, which helped me deepen my understanding of programming principles, system architecture, and scalable web applications. My goal was to create a comprehensive, free resource about the languages of the world. While there are many amazing language-related websites available, I wanted to build a unique platform where visitors could find reliable answers to their questions, learn languages at no cost, and share their knowledge with others.

How the Lessons and Audio Are Made
The audio for words and phrases on Linguapedia is generated with Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, not recorded by native speakers. Text-to-speech lets me add audio to thousands of words in many languages, which a one-person project couldn't do with recordings. Modern synthetic voices sound natural and are a good guide to pronunciation, but they sometimes get a word wrong, especially abbreviations, numbers, or words that are spelled the same but stressed differently.
I also use AI tools to help draft lessons. Every lesson is checked, edited and fact-checked by me before it goes online, and I take full responsibility for its content. If a word sounds off or you spot a mistake, please let me know via the Contact page and I'll fix it.
